Those of you who follow me on Twitter will no doubt already know that I am chuffed to bits that gorgeous Greg was awarded the £70k prize money. However, there was one thing about the final episode that really shocked me.

For those of you who haven’t seen the final episode, apologies I seem to have ruined the outcome! However, there was more to the episode so if you have taped, videoed, Sky+ed or DVDed then look away now! In the final beach party the Sharks won by a landslide victory of 17 to the Tigers 14 (whoop, whoop n all that!) But what they didn’t know was that one of them was going to swoop the entire prize fund all for themselves, leaving Mark’s very well thought out shopping list null and void! The plot thickened further when it was revealed the Tigers got to choose which one of their frenemies got their grubby lil mits on the cash.

The Tiger girls and boys then visited Shark Island separately to quiz the possible candidates and make their decision. Only one problem, it was a secret mission and they weren’t allowed to tell the Sharks anything about this secret twist. Thank god the Tigers didn’t win cause there’s no way Mark could have kept his mammoth mouth shut about that one :p

Now we get to the bit that shocked me. Doug, resident on Shark Island is a religious sort of bloke. When the Tigers asked him what his ambitions were, he replied he’d like to start a church, be successful and be able to support his future family. It appears that this totally discredited him to the Tigers with some of them, Silkie and Hollie in particular both saying: “I don’t want that money to go to a church.”

How can two well-educated women have such disregard for something that so many people believe in? I’m not a religious person, I don’t go to church and I’m not even really sure if I believe in god and all that stuff. However, I still acknowledge that there are a lot of people in this world who do believe in that. Not only do people believe, religion, church and community is something that provides a tremendous amount of comfort to a lot of people, and to totally disregard that simply because they don’t believe in it themselves is ludicrous! Would they rather give the money to Mark to be frittered away on a Pug, a laptop, a trip to New York and whatever other things he dreamed up to add to his shopping list? It really did shock me that today’s youth could be so disrespectful and ignorant to the realities of life.

That doesn’t take away from the fact that I think Greg was a very worthy winner. He’s going to have to find one hell of a piggy bank to bosh all that delicious moolar in! Well done Greg! Now all that’s left is for us to look forward to the sun-kissed, ripped bods of the Shipwrecked 2010 crew. Ooh I can’t wait ;)

Well – i only stumble across this cause i was looking to see if there’s going to be any more shipwrecked in the years to come – especially since i’d love to appear on it myself.
First of all, Greg shouldn’t have won, Mackenzie should have, but thats just me. Secondly , why shouldn’t they express their opinions on church. A lot of religious peoples opinions come directly from religious texts. These people are often very narrow minded and well refuse any opinion that conflicts with ‘the will of god’. I personally have been on the recieving end of a mindless rant that was drilled into some fool who followed religion before their own thoughts, and it hurts. Why fund something that promotes such single mindedness? Think about it, do you think Xanthi and Dan would have wanted the money to have gone to a church? Almost definately not. The pope promotes homophobia. I think they were right in their decision. Ah well, glad somoene else enjoys shipwrecked. All my friend laugh at me for it.

I agree with you, everyone has the right to express their opinions but I do think it’s rude to disregard something that, like it or not, does a lot of good. Like I said, I’m not religious at all but that doesn’t mean I discredit church and the good it does. Yes the pope promotes homophpbia but that doesn’t mean all religious people are homophobic. Look at Doug, he even said that that everyone has the choice to live whatever life they want. The main point I was making is that it was Hollie and Silkie were letting their beliefs dictate who they gave the money to without even giving a second thought to the wider picture. They were practically saying the a religion/house of worship didn’t deserve the money simply because they themselves don’t believe in it. Can we really say that isn’t narrow-minded?

I did think either Mackenzie or Greg would be worthy winners. Both were instrumental in Sharks winning and are humble blokes. I think I wanted Greg to get he money cause I fancied him the most out of the two! Very Sophisticated voting system ;) lol

I didn’t vote for Doug because yes, I am an atheist, I did think about all the good things that Doug MIGHT do but then decided it wasn’t enough. Doug, himself, is a lovely guy with some dodgy beliefs about homosexuality and I thought that in itself was enough to discredit him from the runnning.

The church does a lot of good but then look at the bigger picture, not so much. But I hardly think this is the time of the place to dispute the intricacies of religious fevour.

Well we are a light-sorted type of blog but I think a good healthy debate never hurt anyone. I don’t think we’re really looking at the global picture of religion, just what good a community church could do. Of course all things in life have negative aspects but I personally think Doug is a great role model for young Christians. Although he’d been brought up under the influence that homosexuality is wrong, he didn’t let that get in the way of his friendships with Island residents or let it influence how he felt about them. Most importantly he treated both Xanthi and Dan exactly the same as everyone else. In fact we never would’ve know anything about it if he hadn’t have been asked.

Like I said, I am glad Greg and I’m not suggesting Doug should have. Just that he shouldn’t have been taken out of the running because some people didn’t want him to spend money on a church. It seemed to me that they had no justification for it either other than their own beliefs. It’s like saying…”I don’t like coffee so there should be no more coffee shops!” Lol.

The worthyness of a cause isn’t measured by mass appeal. The fact that many people have faith in Christianity doesn’t mandate that it’s a good cause to inject £70g’s in to.

You talk about how it’s disrespectful that they didn’t want the money to go to the church, whereas to me it seems slightly disrespectful that it’s beyond your belief that they would prefer it go to a secular cause where perhaps people from more than one religious branch could benefit from.

My point was that it was disrespectful to disregard something that, whether we like it or not, a lot of people believe in. I’m not preaching about religion, just simply saying it wouldn’t hurt us to recognise that it does a lot of good and provides a lot of comfort to people in their most difficult times. I wasn’t suggesting mass appeal made it a worthy cause, it was about the comfort it provides, even if it was just to one person. I never said it was beyond my belief they would want it to go to a different cause or even that there was no better option. All I said was that it seems short-sighted discredit one person simply because they wanted to put the money toward a church. Like I said there was no reasoning for the comments other than ‘because we don’t believe in it.’

Did anyone else notice that, once it was announced that Greg was chosen to receive the entire prize money, Maz was all over him like a rash. Maz the one that played hard sell to final guy Liran.

I’m not religious my self but I also was shocked when Silkie and someone else said they wouldn’t consider Doug because of his religious related aspirations.

For example, take Christian Aid they do lots of charitable work across the world for people that don’t believe in their faith, (Christianity).

Being a 32 yr old man. I found the whole got boring as it went on, as there was little for them to do. Though insightful into the ways and ideals of young people nowadays (for sharks it was party party party – for Tigers Bored-Board games.)

So, so glad Mark didn’t get to tick off anything on his shopping list.

Totally! The way Maz acted towards Greg was just ridiculous! As if her boyf would even want her back after he found out what she’d been doing! He obviously didn’t mean that much to her. I hope Greg didn’t give her a penny! He’s lovely and deserves to be treated so much better, he was so lovely to her! Ditto about Mark’s shopping list! Lol. I’m sure he’ll have made a bob or two now tho so probs got his pug after all! Thanks for your comment :)

Rating figures and funding has no doubt got to do with Ch4′s decision.

Besides they did 7 series. Starting in 2000 with a break in 2004&2005 and recommencing in 2006. So, it’s run its course.

Channel 4, did air a show called “Ultimate Traveller” a few months ago, which in my humble opinion was a far more interesting and proactive show. Though, again the participants where a fraction of my age (33), which made it a little hard to keep up with the lingo.
